Understanding Your Government is the First Step to Improving It
Most people never learned how local government actually works. Civics class covered the President and Congress, but what about your County Judge? Your Quorum Court? Your Justice of the Peace? These are the people making decisions that directly impact your life in Sharp County every single day.
The Public Record is committed to closing that knowledge gap.
How Sharp County Government Works
The Quorum Court —
Sharp County’s legislative body, made up of elected Justices of the Peace. They approve the county budget, set tax rates, and pass local ordinances. They meet regularly in sessions that are open to the public. Read more in link below.

Despite the title, the County Judge is primarily an administrator, not a courtroom judge. The County Judge oversees the day to day operations of county government, manages the road department, and presides over Quorum Court meetings.
The County Clerk —
Maintains official county records, processes election ballots, and handles a wide range of public documents that citizens have the right to access.
The Sheriff —
The chief law enforcement officer of Sharp County, elected directly by the people.
The Assessor & Collector —
Responsible for property assessments and the collection of property taxes that fund county services.
Your City Government —
Sharp County contains several municipalities including Ash Flat, Hardy, Evening Shade, and others, each with their own mayor and city council making decisions at the local level.
